5 tablespoons flour (all-purpose)
1 cup room temperature butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup white sugar
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 ℉ (175 degrees C). Two 9-inch round pans should be greased.
- Combine shortening and 1 1/2 cup sugar in a mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and beat them thoroughly.

- teaspoon vanilla
- add the flour and buttermilk mixture to the batter, mixing just until combined.
- Combine the baking soda and vinegar in a mixing bowl and gently incorporate into the cake batter. After this, don’t stir or beat the batter.
- Pour the batter into the pans that have been prepared. Bake for 30 minutes in a preheated oven, or until a tester inserted into the cake comes out clean. On a wire rack, cool the cakes entirely.
- To make icing, follow these steps. Cook, stirring constantly, 5 tablespoons flour and milk over low heat until thickened.
- Allow to cool completely before using. While the mixture cools, cream together butter, 1 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
