Slow Cooker Beef Tips with Gravy

  • 3 pounds top sirloin steak, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 teaspoon Lawry’s Seasoned Salt, divided
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

1. Sear the Beef

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a 12-inch cast iron or heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add half of the beef cubes and season with ½ teaspoon seasoned salt and freshly ground black pepper. Let sit undisturbed for 2–3 minutes, then stir just enough to sear all sides without cooking through. Transfer to the slow cooker using a slotted spoon. Repeat with the remaining oil and beef.

2. Add Flavorings

Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the seared beef in the slow cooker. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and dried thyme. Add diced onions and minced garlic on top and tuck in the bay leaf.

3. Slow Cook

Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.

4. Thicken the Gravy

In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch until smooth. Stir the mixture into the slow cooker and cook on LOW for an additional 10 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Remove the bay leaf.

5. Serve

Serve the beef tips hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
