Ingredients

  • 1 (7-ounce) prepared pie crust, thawed according to package directions (tin pan)
  • 3 cups whole pecans
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup pitted dates
  • 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the pecans in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for 18 minutes, then remove them and let them cool slightly.
  2. In the container of a high-speed blender, combine the eggs, dates, maple syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend for 2-3 minutes, or until smooth and well combined.
  3. Place about 2 1/2 cups of the toasted pecans into the prepared pie crust. Set aside the remaining whole pecans for decoration.
  4. Pour the blended egg mixture over the pecans in the pie crust, gently shaking the pan to evenly distribute the filling. Arrange the reserved whole pecans on top for decoration.
  5. Bake the pie for 30 minutes or until the filling is set and the center of the pie is firm. Allow it to cool for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.

Tips

Design sans titre 2025 03 31T003514.474
  • Toast the Pecans: Toasting the pecans enhances their flavor and adds a lovely crunch to the pie.
  • Let the Pie Cool: Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing to ensure the filling sets properly and is easier to cut.
  • Use Fresh Dates: For a smoother texture and better flavor, use fresh, soft dates. If using dried dates, you may need to soak them to soften.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Sweetener Substitutes: You can substitute the maple syrup with honey or agave syrup for a different flavor profile.
  • Butter Substitution: Replace the butter with coconut oil for a dairy-free version.
  • Add Chocolate: For a twist, add a handful of mini chocolate chips to the filling for extra richness.

FAQs

  • Can I make this pie ahead of time? Yes, pecan pie can be made up to two days ahead. Store it in the fridge and reheat before serving.
  • Can I use a different crust? You can use a homemade or gluten-free pie crust if you prefer.
  • What if the pie isn’t setting? If the pie filling is too runny after baking, return it to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until it firms up.

Serving and Suggestions

  • Serve with Whipped Cream or Ice Cream: Top the pie with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic combination.
  • Pair with Coffee or Tea: This pecan pie pairs beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or herbal tea, making it a perfect dessert for any gathering.
