Ingredients
- For the Hunan Sauce:
1/2 cup beef broth
2 tbsp soy sauce (low sodium)
1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp vinegar (rice wine)
2 tsp Oyster Sauce
1 tsp sambal oelek (sambal oelek), or to taste
1 tsp DoubanJiang (optional) (spicy chili bean sauce)
1 tsp sugar or honey
- For the stir fry:
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
1 tbsp. minced garlic
2 tbsp. canola oil (divided)
3 cups florets broccoli
1 tbsp. minced ginger
15-ounce can of baby corn
1 red bell pepper, diced
Directions
- To make the Hunan sauce, whisk together all of the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
- In a skillet or wok, heat 1 tsp oil over high heat.
- Stir-fry until the steak is barely done on the inside and the outside has golden, crispy chunks.
- Take the beef from the pan and drizzle in the last 1 tablespoon of oil, followed by garlic and ginger.
- Stir fry for 10 seconds before adding the vegetables.
- Add the Hunan sauce when the vegetables are halfway tender crisp (approximately a minute for broccoli, baby corn, and red bell pepper).
- Within a minute or two, it should begin to bubble and thicken.
- Remove from the fire, add the beef, and serve.
