Ingredients

  • 6 oz (175 g) quality chocolate, chopped or in chips
  • 6 tablespoons hot cocoa mix
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • Optional: small brownie pieces, chocolate decorations, or sprinkles

Instructions

1. Melt the Chocolate

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate in 15-second increments, stirring between each interval to avoid overheating.
  2. Alternatively, use a double boiler for a more controlled melt.

2. Prepare Chocolate Spheres

  1. Spoon 2 tablespoons of melted chocolate into each half-sphere mold.
  2. Using a pastry brush or spoon, spread chocolate evenly around the inside. Ensure a thick, even coating to prevent fragile shells.

3. Chill the Shells

  1. Place molds in the freezer for 15 minutes to set.
  2. Carefully remove half-spheres from the molds. Work quickly to avoid melting the chocolate with your hands.

4. Decorate (Optional)

  1. For half of the shells, drizzle melted chocolate over the top and immediately sprinkle decorations like mini chocolate chips or sprinkles.
  2. Freeze 5โ€“10 minutes to set the drizzle.

5. Fill the Bombs

  1. Take the plain half-spheres and add 1 tablespoon of hot cocoa mix, a few mini marshmallows, and optional brownie pieces.

6. Seal the Bombs

  1. Heat a microwave-safe plate for 30โ€“45 seconds.
  2. Place a decorated half-sphere on the warm plate for a few seconds to slightly melt the edge. Quickly press it onto the filled half-sphere to seal. Repeat for all bombs.

7. Make Hot Chocolate

  1. Place a hot chocolate bomb in a mug.
  2. Pour 6 oz (175 ml) warm milk over the bomb. Stir as the shell melts, releasing marshmallows (and brownies if used).
  3. Add extra marshmallows or a drizzle of chocolate syrup for a fancier touch.

FAQs

How long can hot chocolate bombs be stored?
Up to 2 weeks in an airtight container at room temperature.

Can I make them ahead of time?
Yes! They are ideal for holiday gifts or advance preparation.

Do I have to use molds?
Molds make shaping easier, but you can hand-form spheres using a parchment paper-lined surface.
