Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 5 ounces ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 taco shells
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, avocado slices, pico de gallo, salsa

Instructions

1. Cook the Aromatics
Heat olive oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds. Add the chopped onion and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.

2. Cook the Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season with salt, chili powder, and cumin—or substitute with ½ teaspoon of taco seasoning. Cook for about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat on a paper towel-lined plate and keep warm.

3. Warm the Taco Shells
Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Place the taco shells on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes until warm and slightly crisp.

4. Assemble the Tacos
Fill each taco shell with the cooked ground beef. Add your preferred toppings, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, salsa, or pico de gallo.
