  • 2 (14 oz) cans fava beans
  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Sauce for Topping

  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ½ cup chopped parsley
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon chopped jalapeños
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the fava beans and chickpeas in cold water using a colander.
  2. Transfer the beans to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add 1½ cups cold water, cumin, and kosher salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Smash the beans with the back of a wooden spoon until you achieve your desired consistency.
  4. While the beans are simmering, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, parsley, crushed garlic, chopped jalapeños, salt, and pepper.
  5. Once the beans are done cooking, serve the sauce on top of the ful medames or stir half of the sauce into the beans and reserve the other half for serving on the side.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve alongside warm pita, tomatoes, and radishes.
