Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust (homemade or pre-made)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream or heavy whipping cream
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup green onions, diced
  • 1 cup cooked ham, diced
  • 1¼ cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven:
Set your oven to 400°F (205°C) and position the rack in the middle.
  2. Prepare the crust:
Line a tart pan or pie plate with the pie crust. If using frozen crust, thaw for about 10 minutes. Prick the bottom and sides with a fork, then bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and reduce the temperature to 325°F (160°C).
  3. Mix the filling:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream until smooth. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, paprika, and pepper. Add the green onions, diced ham, and cheddar cheese, mixing until evenly distributed.
  4. Assemble and bake:
Pour the filling into the pre-baked crust. Bake on the center rack for 25–28 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the center no longer jiggles.
  5. Cool and serve:
Let the quiche rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This quiche is simple yet elegant, making it perfect for any meal of the day. It’s creamy, savory, and full of texture thanks to the crispy crust, tender ham, and gooey melted cheese. Plus, it’s versatile—you can swap in your favorite fillings for endless variations.

Tips

  • Prevent soggy crust: Pre-baking (blind baking) the crust ensures it stays flaky even after adding the wet filling.
  • Mix gently: Overmixing the eggs can make the texture dense instead of light and custardy.
  • Check doneness: The center should be set but slightly soft—it will continue to firm up as it cools.
  • Use room temperature ingredients: This helps the quiche bake evenly.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Vegetarian option: Replace ham with sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or roasted bell peppers.
  • Different meats: Try cooked bacon, sausage, or turkey instead of ham.
  • Cheese swaps: Use Swiss, Gruyère, mozzarella, or feta in place of cheddar.
  • Crustless quiche: Skip the crust and pour the filling directly into a greased pie dish for a lighter version.

FAQs

Can I make this quiche ahead of time?
Yes! You can bake it the night before and store it covered in the refrigerator. Reheat slices in the oven or microwave before serving.

Can I freeze quiche?
Absolutely. Let it cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen in a 350°F (175°C) oven.

Why is my quiche watery?
It may be underbaked or contain too many watery vegetables. Make sure to cook veggies first and bake until the center is fully set.

Serving and Suggestions

Serve warm or at room temperature with a side salad, roasted vegetables, or fresh fruit. It’s great for brunch buffets, holiday breakfasts, or quick weekday meals. Pair it with a cup of coffee or fresh juice for a complete meal.
