The cheapest method for making crunchy fried green tomatoes that taste like apple pie on the inside. This is a fantastic side dish for any meal!
Ingredients
2 tablespoons oil (vegetable)
½ cup cornmeal (or more if needed)
6 green tomatoes, cored and cut into 1/16-inch slices.
salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Directions
In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
In a bowl, combine cornmeal and water; dip and coat each tomato slice until completely covered.
Place coated tomato slices in the hot oil side by side, 1 to 2 minutes per side until the coating is browned and crusty.
Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Salt and black pepper to taste.
Rep with the rest of the tomato slices.
Cook’s Note:
Cornmeal can be substituted with all-purpose flour.
