Cuban Sandwich Recipe

Cuban Sandwich is a classic pressed sandwich layered with roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on buttery toasted bread. This easy homemade recipe delivers bold Cuban flavors with juicy meat, melted cheese, and crisp bread perfect for lunch, dinner, or entertaining.

Ingredients

For the Pork:

  • 1 pound pork tenderloin
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1ยฝ teaspoons salt
  • ยฝ teaspoon ground black pepper

For the Sandwich:

  • 1 large Cuban loaf, or 4 smaller ones (substitute with hoagie rolls, Italian, or French bread)
  • โ…“ cup yellow mustard
  • 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced
  • 1 pound smoked ham, sliced
  • 4 large dill pickles, sliced
  • Sliced pork (from above)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pork:
    Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) and line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.
    In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, orange juice, lime juice, garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.
    Place the pork tenderloin on the prepared baking sheet and pour the marinade over it, coating all sides.
    Roast for 25โ€“30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145ยฐF (63ยฐC).
    Let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly (about ยผ inch thick).
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches:
    Slice the Cuban bread in half lengthwise. If using a large loaf, cut it into 4 equal sandwich portions.
    Spread mustard over the top half of each loaf. On the bottom half, layer half of the cheese, followed by ham, sliced pork, pickles, and the remaining cheese.
    Place the top half of the bread over the filling.
  3. Grill the Sandwiches:
    Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a bit of butter.
    Add one or two sandwiches at a time, pressing them down with a heavy pan or sandwich press. Cook for 2โ€“3 minutes per side, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden and crisp.
    Repeat with remaining sandwiches.
  4. Serve:
    Cut each sandwich in half and serve warm, traditionally with potato chips or fries.
