What You’ll Need

To make this creamy bacon mushroom pasta, you’ll need a few basic ingredients: pasta, bacon, cremini mushrooms, garlic, chicken broth (or dry white wine), Italian seasoning, lemon juice, flour, Dijon mustard, heavy cream, salt, pepper, Parmesan cheese, and parsley. These simple ingredients come together to create a rich and flavorful dish.

How to Make Creamy Bacon Mushroom Pasta

  1. Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente.
  2. Fry the bacon in a skillet until crispy, then remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté the mushrooms in the bacon fat until they release their moisture and cook off.
  4. Add garlic and cook briefly.
  5. Remove mushrooms and garlic, then deglaze the skillet with broth or wine.
  6. Stir in Italian seasoning, lemon juice, flour, and Dijon mustard.
  7. Add the cream and simmer until slightly thickened.
  8. Return the bacon and mushrooms to the skillet and combine with the sauce.
  9. Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce, adding a splash of pasta water if needed.
  10. Serve with freshly grated Parmesan and parsley.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Pasta: Use any pasta shape you like, such as fettuccine, penne, or spaghetti.
  • Bacon: Swap bacon for pancetta or turkey bacon for a different flavor profile.
  • Mushrooms: Substitute cremini mushrooms with button mushrooms, portobello, or shiitake.
  • Cream: For a lighter option, use half-and-half or a dairy-free cream substitute.
  • Wine/Broth: Replace white wine with more chicken broth or vegetable broth for a non-alcoholic version.

What to Serve with Bacon Mushroom Pasta

This rich pasta dish pairs well with a simple green salad, garlic bread, or roasted vegetables. For a complete meal, consider serving it alongside grilled chicken or a light soup.

Leftovers and Storage

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm gently in a skillet over low heat, adding a splash of milk or cream to loosen the sauce if needed. Avoid microwaving, as it may cause the sauce to separate.

Savor the rich flavors of creamy bacon and mushroom pasta with this easy-to-follow recipe. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, this dish combines crispy bacon, savory mushrooms, and a velvety garlic cream sauce that pairs beautifully with your favorite pasta. Whether you’re looking for a comforting meal or an impressive dish for guests, this recipe delivers on taste and simplicity.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces uncooked pasta (I used bucatini)

  • 6 strips bacon, cut into small pieces

  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/3 cup chicken broth or dry white wine

  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • For serving: freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley (optional)

Directions

  • Cook the Pasta: Begin by boiling a salted pot of water and cooking the pasta according to the package instructions until it reaches an al dente texture.
  • Prepare the Bacon: While the pasta cooks, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the bacon pieces until they’re crispy. Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet.
  • Sauté the Mushrooms: Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5-6 minutes or until they release their moisture and it evaporates.
  • Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Set Aside: Remove the mushrooms from the skillet and place them on the same plate as the bacon.
  • Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, add the chicken broth (or wine), Italian seasoning, lemon juice, flour, and Dijon mustard. Stir well and let it cook for about a minute, being careful not to let the liquid completely evaporate.
  • Add Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and let it simmer for about 2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Combine Ingredients: Return the mushrooms and bacon to the skillet, stirring to combine. Let the mixture heat through for a few more minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Toss with Pasta: Drain the cooked pasta and add it to the skillet, tossing everything together to ensure the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve: If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency. Serve immediately, topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley if desired.
  • Enjoy your creamy bacon and mushroom pasta!
