Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 3 oz. fancy crab meat, drained and crumbled
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 ½ teaspoons minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 (12 oz.) package wonton wrappers (see Notes)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 egg, whisked with a splash of water (for egg wash)
  • 1 quart canola oil (for frying)

Instructions

Prepare the Filling

  1. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, crab meat, green onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Assemble the Wontons
2. Lay out wonton wrappers and place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each.
3. Brush the edges of the wrapper lightly with the egg wash. Fold the wrapper into a triangle, pressing the edges to seal tightly. Be sure to remove any air around the filling.
4. Pull the left and right corners of the triangle up toward the center and press them together at the top. Ensure all edges are sealed to prevent leaks. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

Frying Instructions
5. Heat 2-3 inches of oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to just under 350°F. Test the temperature with a spare wonton wrapper—if it sizzles gently without burning, it’s ready.
6. Fry 4-5 wontons at a time, cooking for 45 seconds to 1 minute until golden brown.
7. Remove and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

Baking Instructions
8. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray and preheat the sheet in the oven for 5 minutes.
9. Arrange wontons on the hot baking sheet and spray them lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until golden and crisp. Check for doneness starting at 5 minutes.

Air Frying Instructions
11. Lightly brush wontons with vegetable oil. Air fry at 370°F for 7-8 minutes or until crisp and lightly browned.

Serve
12. Serve warm with sweet-and-sour sauce, mustard sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.

FAQs

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes, assemble the wontons and refrigerate them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Cover and cook within 24 hours.

Can I freeze Crab Rangoon?
Absolutely! Freeze uncooked wontons on a tray, then transfer them to a freezer bag. Cook from frozen—just add an extra minute or two to the cooking time.

How do I prevent wontons from bursting during frying?
Ensure they are tightly sealed and do not overfill. Keep the oil temperature consistent to avoid sudden bubbling.
