Ingredients

  • 1 ยฝ cups (360 ml) warm water (110ยฐF / 45ยฐC)
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
  • 2 tsp brown sugar or molasses
  • 2 cups (240 g) rye flour
  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 2 ยผ tsp instant yeast

Instructions

1. Layer Ingredients in Bread Machine:
Add ingredients to the bread pan in this order: water, olive oil, brown sugar or molasses, salt, rye flour, all-purpose flour, caraway seeds (if using), and yeast on top.

2. Set Up Bread Machine:
Place the bread pan in the machine and secure it. Close the lid and plug in the machine. Select the “Rye Bread” setting, or use “Whole Wheat” or “Basic” for a medium-size (1 ยฝ lb) loaf.

3. Start the Machine:
Start the bread machine and allow it to complete the kneading, rising, and baking cycles.

4. Cool the Bread:
When baking is complete, unplug the machine. Remove the pan using oven mitts. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then gently remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Remove the paddle from the bottom if itโ€™s stuck in the loaf.
